The Pere Marquette fishing report for the middle of February is currently ahead of normal. With such a beautiful weekend water temperatures have been taken in the middle 40’s already. Active spawning areas have started and drop-back steelhead(steelhead that are post spawn) have already been hooked and landed.
While February spawning is nothing new, as it has happened in years past. Usually a cold front helps slow it down the following week. But looking at this next week, looks like mother nature is giving us a 40’s and 50’s for the next few days. This weekend looks to be the first 30’s again.
With water on the rise and new fish reported in the lower ends, Spring Steelhead has started. The last couple weeks we have been playing in the middle to lower areas, and males have been the most aggressive holding in the deep darkest pits. But now with water rising an temperatures climbing fast the Pere Marquette fishing report is a totally different story. Slots, and runs are fishing best. Fish are on the move to the gravel sections. With a warm week ahead, spring steelhead has officially started.
