Michigan Steelhead Report

Manistee River Below Tippy Dam

The Manistee is in good shape, running a bit below its normal winter levels and has a great green color to it. Fishing has been good this winter and there are plenty of fish around to play with. Water temp is hovering around 34 degrees and fish are definitely setting up in wood and on the slower side of the seams.

Eggs have been the top producer and this time of year I like slightly larger eggs. Colors tend to change day to day, so keep changing until you find what they want. Dull yellows and peaches are good starting points and I have had a couple fish take smaller minnow patterns as well.

Spring steelhead season is right around the corner.  Call the office at 231-228-7135 or click here to book online.
