Salmon eggs start hatching after about 90 days in the gravel, this small pattern is a great fly to fish in late January and all of February. It will match the hatch for the small salmon “Alevin’s” that are very abundant and an excellent food source for steelhead. Matching the color and size of alevins, this pattern also is a decent green caddis pattern as well. That gives spring steelhead and trout two reasons to eat this imitation.
