Grouse and Woodcock in the Northwoods!

As the summer winds down and the evenings develop a slight chill, our minds go to the amazing birds that inhabit our area and the Autumn memories that will be created.  Michigan is one of the top 3 states for grouse hunting and the “king of the gamebirds” thrives well here, especially in Northern Michigan.  We also lead the country in woodcock harvest numbers as well.  A day in the northwoods chasing these wily cousins will create a lifetime of memories.

Our guides spend countless hours every year scouting and working hard to get you on the “X” for the prime habitat that holds birds for your day afield.

Pheasant Hunting at Thundering Aspens Sportsman’s Club

Thundering Aspens Sportsman’s Club (TASC), with over 100 people on the waiting list, is an exciting and exclusive club.  In existence since the mid 80’s, this is not a “put and take” club.  The Wright family works tirelessly to develop and maintain quality habitat that not only protects their birds from predators and harsh winter weather, but provides food and nesting habitat that allows them to thrive throughout the year.

This results in around 400 naturally reproducing pheasants and 2-3 coveys of quail.  Additionally, the almost 1000 acres of hunting land is supplemented with around 15,000 birds that are wild-released.

The end result?  The closest pheasant hunting to what you experience in South Dakota and Iowa this side of the Mississippi!

Join us for a morning or afternoon (or both) hunt at TASC this season!

Hawkins Outfitters is the only Orvis-endorsed outfitter in Michigan and offers many different options for chasing upland species.  Whether it is grouse and woodcock over stylish English Setters you are sure to enjoy a day afield that you won’t soon forget.

Call the office at 231-228-7135 to reserve your hunt dates for 2023!  Want variety?  Make it a cast and blast!

Upland Hunting for Grouse and Woodcock in Northern Michigan

Chase the king of gamebirds with your guide at Hawkins Outfitters.

Thundering Aspens Sportsman’s Club (TASC):

Seasons:

Spring Chukar (April to mid-May):  Great for getting the dog out and shaking the dust off from winter.  Or for working the young dog on location and steadiness.  This IS put and take hunting.

Pheasant and Quail (Sept to mid-January):  This is the explosiveness of wild released pheasant hunting!  Hens and Roosters are fair game and the limit is 6 birds per person with the ability to pay for additional if you choose to shoot them.  Once the hen quota is reached (sometime in December) it is roosters-only for the remainder of the season.
