Tarpon Trip

Angling Destinations (owned by Chuck and Cherie Hawkins) is hosting a tarpon trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico.  I’ve fished these waters for a couple years.  We catch tarpon on floating lines between 10 and 110 pounds right in San Juan! This is an urban fishing trip in an area that had more tarpon than I’ve ever seen consistently!

The  details..

We have three, three day trips, eight anglers each trip. The dates are May 11-13, two spots left, 15-17, five spots available and 18-20, five spots available. You will arrive the day before and depart the day after. You are welcome to come for any or all of the trips. You can get direct flights from Detroit. From Traverse City I go through Chicago. No passport required, US dollars, lots of English speaking, no rental car needed.

We will be using 10 and 11 weight rods equipped with floating and intermediate lines. I’ll provide flies, and have loaner Helios rods and big games reels if you need one.

Our guides are local tarpon guides from San Juan, Chasing Tarpon. We fished with them this year and they did a great job.

This isn’t flats fishing, you will see tarpon roll but you aren’t sight fishing them. Two anglers can fish at the same time!

We will start early in the morning fish half a day then break for lunch and a siesta then go back out and fish the rest of the day. You will be fishing most of the day.

Accommodations

We will be staying at a local  hotel near the beach. Rooms are double occupancy; single occupancy can be arranged for an upcharge. Boats are the same but remember both anglers can fish at the same time, no problem so paying for a single isn’t necessary or desirable.

Costs

Cost is $2300, double occupancy room. It includes guides, a large breakfast sandwich, water and Gatorade in the boat, lodging and transportation to and from the fishing each day. The cost for a single room, double occupancy in the boat is $2600.

Not included, flights, gratuities, transportation to and from the airport, lunch, dinner and transportation to and from hotel for lunch and dinner. Uber is very easy in San Juan for airport and meal transportation. As of today flights on Delta were from $360 for economy and $1000 for first class and on American from Traverse City rates were $405 to $810.

A $1000 deposit is required at the time of booking, with the balance due in mid March. Checks payable to Chuck Hawkins.
